SharePoint Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for SharePoint enthusiasts. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I've got a SharePoint 2007 site set up but am experiencing issues with getting the user AD group.

When I open the site in a new browser window there appears to be no user information loaded, a symtom of this is that the "site menu" is not visible and various user restricted webpart elements are disabled.

However, if I visit the "~/_layouts/settings.aspx", or a similar settings page, the webpart elements are enabled and the "site actions" menu becomes visible again.

The missing "Site Actions" menu isn't the real problem but seems to be a symptom of there being no user information?

The problem can be repeated by closing the browser and opening a new window.

I'm at a loss for where to look for a solution, any pointers are welcome.

Regards.

IS the AD group you added a security group or a distribution group? – James Love Oct 20 '11 at 10:39
I would need to check but I'm pretty sure it's a security group. After the visiting the settings page the user group can be read no problem, which makes me think this is an issue with my Sharepoint setup or confing. I'm stumped! – uint32 Oct 20 '11 at 11:53
Could this be an issue with IE trusted zones? – uint32 Oct 20 '11 at 14:27
