SharePoint Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for SharePoint enthusiasts. It's 100% free, no registration required.

Our company has a SharePoint 2010 team collaborative environment that is based on the organizational structure - for example, we have top-level site collections for Finance, IT, etc. with the appropriate subsites underneath those areas. The problem is that we're encountering several organizational changes and are getting requests from executives to change the structure.

We can do this, obviously, but I'm looking for ways to do this without having to change links all the time for users. Here is what we're trying to look into:

  • IIS redirection - can help to manage URL structures, but not if someone wants to "Navigate Up"
  • Custom navigation layer done programatically with URL logic "behind the scenes"; again, the "Navigate Up" issue

Any ideas or best practices?
